Physio Focus Proudly Supporting Burraneer Rugby Senior

Great to see the unveiling of the Physio Focus sponsorship banner at the Burraneer Rugby Club last weekend! To top it off the Burraneer Rugby Seniors won their first game of their season 22-17 against local rivals Engadine!

We are proud to throw our support behind the long standing Sutherland Shire Rugby Club for the 2018 season.

Advanced Core Strength

Over the course of this newsletter we have gone through a range of different exercises, from introductory breathing techniques to pilates routines to a progression of gluteal strength exercises. This month I want to go through some more difficult core exercises that can be used for someone aiming for a higher level of function and stability.

Gluteal Strength Exercises – Our Favourites!

Gluteal (buttock) strength is extremely important for both hip extension and hip external rotation. These two movements are responsible for proper movement quality in tasks such as:

Standing from sitting
Climbing stairs
Lifting things from the floor
Bending over
Running or walking

So it is fair to say that having weak glutes can affect most things we do!

Pilates basics with Steph Hely

With the introduction of pilates classes at the clinic we thought it would be a great chance to show everyone some of the basics from the classes.

The following videos go through some key fundamentals to any pilates  exercise, and can also be a valuable tool for anyone with back pain or keen to work on their core strength.

Prevent Injury & Enhance performance Program (PEP)

What is a PEP program?

A PEP program is a 15-20minute warm up routine that aims at significantly reducing non-contact injuries during sport. The Aim is to complete the program 2-3x per week during training sessions or prior to a game.

A quick video of the entire program can be seen on our youtube channel –
