What Soreness to expect from Exercise

A common issue for patients is finding they are sore after completing their home exercise program, especially after strengthening exercises.

The question is, what soreness is expected and is okay, and what soreness is unwanted. This summary should help to clarify the difference between how you might be feeling. Over the course of this newsletter we have gone through a range of different exercises, from introductory breathing techniques to pilates routines to a progression of gluteal strength exercises. This month I want to go through some more difficult core exercises that can be used for someone aiming for a higher level of function and stability.

Gluteal Strength Exercises – Our Favourites!

Gluteal (buttock) strength is extremely important for both hip extension and hip external rotation. These two movements are responsible for proper movement quality in tasks such as:

Standing from sitting
Climbing stairs
Lifting things from the floor
Bending over
Running or walking

So it is fair to say that having weak glutes can affect most things we do!
