Neck Pain Physio & Back Pain Treatment

Neck pain and lower back pain are two common complaints that we see as physiotherapists in the clinic.

If you are suffering from chronic pain as a result of stressing at work, or if you have sat all day at a desk, it can be difficult to know what you can do. If this is your situation, it's time to take action.

It is difficult to do anything about chronic pain if you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk all day, but we have a few tricks up our sleeves that are both easy and very useful.

Some causes for headaches that are related to the motion of the neck (or to certain types of pain) are listed below:

  • Stress

  • Poor posture

  • Accidents

  • Whiplash

  • Torticollis (Wryneck) neck

What Can Cause Back Pain And Neck Pain At Work?

  • Sitting too long in a workstation or chair

  • Stress, and/or an environment that causes you to feel very stressed

  • Being at a computer workstation or in a chair that is very uncomfortable

  • Lack of physical activity

Headaches are often caused when medicines cause side effects, or if there is some other reason why you are having headaches. Physiotherapy may help you by treating the underlying cause of your pain. Many people think that taking painkillers will solve their problems, and that it will help them to continue to feel better for some time. If your neck pain is caused by something that is causing you to have a headache, getting to the bottom of the problem will help alleviate the pain in the short and long term. It is possible for people to have temporary relief from their headaches by taking painkillers, but when pain persists, it is essential that you try to diagnose the cause.

Headaches Require A Multi-disciplinary Approach

There is a strong correlation between poor posture in sedentaries (as many people in the workplace are prone to) and headaches. But, remember, that even persistent headaches can be triggered by a number of different factors, including being tired, having too many eyes and teeth, and grinding your teeth. Some patients who present to our clinic with recurring headaches in the neck or jaw also visit their dentist and/or their optician to cover all the bases. At Physio Focus Rehab and Performance Centre, our physios will work in conjunction with a range of medical professionals to help you feel better – that is, you will be headache free.
