Commonly Asked Questions

  • During your first visit with Gymea Physio Focus, expect a thorough diagnosis process. Here’s what we’ll address:

What is the injury? Identifying the specific ailment or condition.

What caused it? Exploring the factors that led to your condition.

How long will it take to fix? Estimating your recovery timeline.

Our approach includes a detailed assessment of your general health and specific symptoms through both discussion and physical evaluation. Our expert team employs hands-on techniques and movement analysis to gain a deep understanding of your condition.

We believe in empowering you with knowledge. You'll receive comprehensive patient education on your condition and the treatment strategies we recommend. These may include a range of physical therapy techniques designed to promote healing and manage pain effectively.

  • A standard physio treatment session is 30 minutes 1 on 1 sessions with your physio, however we are more than happy to discuss extended consults.

  • Determining the number of sessions you’ll need at Gymea Physio Focus involves a personalized and collaborative approach, ensuring that your treatment plan is tailored to your specific health goals and conditions.

    Key considerations include:

Your diagnosis: Understanding the nature and severity of your condition.

Your response to treatment: Monitoring how your body reacts to the therapies administered.

Your personal physiotherapy goals: Aligning with what you aim to achieve through our sessions.

We recognize that each patient's situation is unique. If there are any accessibility concerns or other barriers that make frequent visits challenging, please share these with your therapist. We are committed to accommodating your needs and will work with you to determine the most effective treatment frequency and customized care strategies that fit your lifestyle and preferences.

  • Even if you're not currently experiencing pain or injury, a physiotherapist at Gymea Physio Focus can significantly contribute to your overall well-being and physical fitness. Our services extend far beyond reactive care—they're about enhancing your lifestyle and preventing future issues.

    Services offered include:

Specific gym programs: Tailored to meet your personal fitness goals and improve your physical conditioning.

Educational resources and advice: Focused on maintaining and optimizing general health and activity levels.

Preventative care strategies: Designed to reduce the likelihood of injury and promote long-term health.

Many of our clients start their journey with questions like, "I want to start running, where do I begin?" or "I’m interested in gym activities, how can I start safely?" At Gymea Physio Focus, we provide comprehensive guidance and support for these aspirations, ensuring you embark on your fitness activities informed and prepared.

  • Preparing for your physiotherapy appointment at Gymea Physio Focus is straightforward and requires just a few essential items to ensure we can provide you with the best possible care.

    Essentials to bring include:

Yourself in comfortable attire: This allows you to move freely during physical assessments and treatments.

Relevant medical imaging or investigations: If you have had any recent scans or tests, please bring these along as they help us understand your physical health status.

Insurance and claim details: If applicable, such as WorkCover claims, these documents are crucial for processing your session.

Referrals: Any referrals from a GP, specialist, sports physician, or another allied health practitioner will assist in tailoring your treatment to your specific needs.

For an optimal experience, consider bringing any additional medical records or health assessment tools that could provide further insight into your health history. Personal identification is also recommended for verification purposes.

  • At Gymea Physio Focus, we understand that having a support person with you during your session can enhance your comfort and engagement. You are welcome to bring someone along, whether it be a family member, caregiver, or friend, to help you navigate and understand your treatment process.

What to consider when bringing someone:

Collaborative care: Having someone else at your session can facilitate a better understanding of your health condition and the treatment strategies we employ, ensuring they can support you effectively at home.

Patient comfort: Your comfort is paramount, and a familiar face can provide emotional support and increase your confidence during treatment.

Treatment comprehension: Your companion can help remember important details and instructions, enhancing the effectiveness of your care outside of our clinic.

  • Many patients ask, "Can I claim physiotherapy on Medicare?" At Gymea Physio Focus, the general rule is that Medicare does not cover routine physiotherapy sessions. However, there is an exception through the Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly known as the Enhanced Primary Care or EPC Program).

    Key points about Medicare coverage:

Eligibility for Chronic Disease Management Plan: This scheme is specifically designed for individuals with chronic conditions and requires eligibility confirmation from your GP.

Medicare contributions: If you are eligible, Medicare may cover part of the costs for up to five physiotherapy treatment sessions per calendar year.

Understanding healthcare benefits: It’s important to consult with your GP to understand the full extent of your healthcare coverage under this plan, including potential medical reimbursement for physiotherapy.
