Treatment & support if your injury occurs when you are returning to The Sutherland Shire from a long trip
Many of our patients come in with their injuries from skiing or snowboarding on a Monday morning after having a weekend at either Mt Buller Ski Resort or Mt Hotham, Falls Creek or Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain. Most of us begin to hurt ourselves very early in the day, or later in the day. There are many reasons why this happens.
It is important to be physically fit before you start skiing or snowboarding, if you are to avoid injury, and to enjoy the sport to its full potential. It isn't realistic to think that someone can run 20km without some form of training, so we shouldn't believe that we can ski 8 hours in a row, even without some form of training.
At Physio Focus Rehab and Performance Centre we offer a Ski-body Assessment for all skiers and boarders, our team have helped hundreds of skiers and boarders get ready for the harsh weather in winter.
Ski-Body Assessments Are Great For:
Skiers & boarders who are injured and want to return to the slopes as quickly as possible
Skiers & boarders wanting to minimize their risk of injury while skiing/boarding on the snow
Those who are struggling with their fitness, aches and pains, etc
Skiers & boarders who want snow specific strength/conditioning. Those who are unable to perform at their best
Those who want to improve their performance on the snow
Why Do I Need Physiotherapy for an Injury While Skiing?
Many people look forward to going skiing for their winter holiday. It has been a long time since they went to the slopes.
People are very often injured whilst they are skiing or snowboarding, with injuries to their knees being the most frequent. Physiotherapy can help you have a safe holiday, whilst also providing some great injury prevention tips for your holiday.
What Physiotherapy Can Do For You When You Get a Ski Injury?
It's important that you have a good physiotherapy check before you start to ski. You can see whether you are physically fit and if you have any weaknesses or injuries from your last holiday. This will help you plan ways to prevent injury. Fortunately, if you do get injured on the slopes, it is possible to treat it if it is prevented.
If you do go down the slopes and you do sustain an injury, the number one rule is to get it checked out! Some injuries are safe to exercise with and even ski with, but others are not so safe! It's difficult to say where you fit into each category of injury, unless you have it assessed by a professional. So don't take the chance!
Many injuries don't require any treatment, so just some simple self-care techniques will allow you to continue to enjoy your holiday without having to worry about getting hurt. So don't get stressed, get it checked!
